It’s the end of an era. After nearly 30 years, Capers Restaurant will close its doors for good on Saturday, March 29.
The award-winning restaurant and market had been a longtime favorite of the Little Rock food scene since it opened in 1997, known for its fresh seafood dishes, steaks and a wine list that regularly received recognition from Wine Spectator.
Capers was one of three popular eateries (including Cajun’s Wharf in Riverdale and Copper Grill downtown) once led by legendary local chef and restaurateur Mary Beth Ringgold. Months after Cajun’s closed in 2019, leadership of Copper Grill was passed to Dan Kovach, who then took over Capers in 2021.
“I have had the honor of working with Mary Beth for over 20 years, and taking the reins of Capers has been both a privilege and a responsibility I took to heart,” Kovach says. “The decision to close Capers is bittersweet for all of us, but we are incredibly proud of Capers’ legacy and what we leave behind. Our team’s dedication to excellence and our incredible guests have made Capers a special place. As we close this chapter, we look forward to embracing new opportunities while staying true to our roots.”
After Cajun’s closed, some of its most popular menu items would occasionally pop up at its sister restaurants, so we’ll be keeping our eyes on Copper Grill’s menu just in case we can get another taste of Capers, too.
