‘For everyone touched by cancer’s cruel hand’

Boston Marathon

Amanda Bathory is running for Dana-Farber as a tribute to her mom.

In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon athletes share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.

Name: Amanda Bathory
Age: 44
From: Auburndale, Mass.

I’m lacing up for the 2025 Boston Marathon, marking my fourth consecutive year running for Dana-Farber. This race is deeply personal. I grew up on this course, and every mile is a tribute to my mom, who lost her battle with lung cancer at just 55.

But it’s more than just running for her. It’s for everyone touched by cancer’s cruel hand. It’s for the fear that lives inside me, the fear I fight with every stride. And most importantly, it’s for my two children, so they can grow up in a world where the word “cancer” no longer holds such power.

Join me in supporting Dana-Farber and their incredible work to make that world a reality.
