LeFlore High has its new head football coach.
The Rattlers announced on social media Tuesday they have hired Vigor defensive coordinator Michael Perry to take over the football program.
Perry replaces Renardo Jackson, who stepped down in December.
The Vigor defense allowed just 83 points in 14 games in 2024 as the team reached the Class 5A state semifinals. Perry’s unit included Class 5A Lineman of the Year Jabarrius Garror.
Perry previously served as head coach at Central-Hayneville High School from 2018-2021. His last two teams there reached the Class 1A playoffs. He was 18-21 overall.
“It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that we welcome Coach Perry to the LeFlore family,” the school release said. “His passion for success, combined with his commitment to both academic and athletic excellence, perfectly aligns with our school’s mission and vision. We are fully confident in his ability to create a program that our students, staff, alumni and community can be proud of.”
Perry takes over a LeFlore program that has won just five games since 2019. He is the team’s fourth head coach in that span. The Rattlers last made the playoffs in 2013. The team’s last winning season came in 2010.
The school announced there will be an informational meeting for all LeFlore student-athletes and parents interested in football at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the media center.
The Perry announcement – coupled with UMS-Wright’s announcement on Tuesday of the hiring of Sam Williams – leaves Mobile County with openings at Faith Academy, Murphy and Vigor.
