Little Rock Weekend Guide: March 6-9

From fashion shows and superheroes to art markets and good ol’ boot scootin’, it’s all on the agenda this weekend. Let’s get into it.

 

Thursday, March 6

First Thursday Shop & Sip in Hillcrest // It’s the first Thursday of the month, and that means it’s time to get your shop ‘n’ sip on. Soak up the Kavanaugh vibes while you take advantage of the specials, later hours and extra fun. It kicks off at 5 p.m. Learn more here.

Easterseals Arkansas Fashion Event at the Statehouse Convention Center // It doesn’t get much better than this, folks. This runway fashion show is a citywide favorite for a reason, starring Easterseals models sporting fashions from local boutiques. The evening also includes music, hors d’oeuvres and auctions (and you might see a few familiar faces on stage). Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Learn more here.

“Commander in Chief” With Rod Lurie at the Clinton Presidential Center // The museum’s exhibit of presidents in pop culture comes to a close this month, but first is this conversation with director, screenwriter and showrunner Rod Lurie moderated by political consultant Michael Cook. Lurie will discuss how on-screen portrayals shape public perception, including in his film “The Contender” and series “Commander in Chief.” It starts at 6 p.m. Learn more here.

 

Friday, March 7

SoMa After Dark on South Main Street // After taking a break for the holidays, this neighborhood bash is back and with a new move from monthly to quarterly in hopes of delivering even bigger fun. As always, you can expect menu specials, art, longer hours and lots of local goodness. (And yes, SoMa still turns into a temporary entertainment district, so grab your drinks to go.) “God of Carnage” Opening Night at The Weekend Theater // Some playground drama goes off the rails when grownups get involved in this combustible dark comedy where tact is quickly off the table. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Learn more here.

Boot Scootin’ Boogie Nights at Stickyz Rock ‘N’ Roll Chicken Shack // Something tells us Brooks & Dunn would approve. This traveling party show busts out all the ’90s country hits for a night of singing and dancing that might just heal your achy breaky heart. Showtime is 8:30 p.m. Learn more here.

 

Saturday, March 8

Great American Citywide Cleanup // This weekend you have a chance to help The Natural State live up to its name. Hosted by Keep Little Rock Beautiful, there are various organized activities being led by neighborhood or volunteer groups, so pick one (or go solo) and roll up your sleeves. A kickoff event will be held at The Anthony School at 8:30 a.m. Learn more here.

Flow and Flourish at Pulaski Heights Baptist Church // In celebration of International Women’s Day, Arkansas Women’s Outreach is hosting a day of wellness starting with a free yoga class and ending with a packing party to put together period products for Arkansans in need. East Village Art Market at The Rail Yard // Over on Sixth Street, a special International Women’s Day edition of this market (and the first of the year) invites guests to “sip, shop and stay a while,” which will be no problem thanks to the lineup of artists, makers, creatives and menu specials. Art in the Garden at The Bernice Garden // A new event for the SoMa spot, this gathering promises a day full of local art and the chance to take home a few new pieces. Shop the art fair from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Learn more here.

Pickleball With Purpose at the Little Rock Athletic Club // With The Hat Club and Junior League of Little Rock joining forces for this inaugural tourney, it’s sure to be a smash. The day includes round-robin competition, raffles and concessions, all while raising funds for JLLR’s community projects. It starts at noon. Learn more here.

Puppy Yoga at Camp Yoga & Pilates // Who knew zen could be so cute? This gentle yoga session led by Jody Veit-Edrington is all about ditching the stress while learning downward dog from its adorable namesakes. Plus, all the puppies are rescues from Last Chance Arkansas, which the session will support. You have two chances to flow: 2 and 3:30 p.m. Learn more here.

Classic Movies at Ron Robinson Theater // The popcorn is flowing once again at the CALS theater in the River Market. Up first is “Waiting to Exhale” on Thursday at 7 p.m. On Saturday, catch “Titanic” at 2 p.m. and “Ladyhawke” at 7 p.m. Learn more here.

Season Closer at UA-PTC CHARTS // Pulaski Tech’s Center for Humanities and Arts (aka CHARTS) is ending its 2024-2025 lineup with two powerful performances. On Thursday, the ASO cello ensemble takes the stage to explore classical, avant garde and pop styles. On Saturday, the No Tears Project returns with its signature blend of jazz and justice to “honor civil rights heroes through music.” Showtime is 7:30 p.m. both nights. Learn more here.

 

Sunday, March 9

Chili Cookoff at Pettaway Square // We’ve never met a chili cookoff we didn’t like, especially when it helps our neighbors. Moody Brews, Smashed ‘n’ Stacked and Paper Hearts Bookstore are all teaming up to host the throwdown, and you get to choose the winner. The best part? All proceeds go to The Van to help Arkansans experiencing homelessness. The tasting starts at 1 p.m. Learn more here.

 

Friday – Sunday, March 7-9

Vintage Market Days at the Arkansas State Fairgrounds // Flea market fabulous is always in style. This traveling market is back with the apt theme “Rain or Shine” and giving locals their fill of clothing, outdoor furnishings, antiques, art, decor and more. Shopping hours are 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Sunday. Learn more here.

“Lights, Camera, Action!” at the Robinson Center // Next up in the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra’s Pops Series is this showcase of songs from some of your favorite Hollywood titles. Think: “Saving Private Ryan,” “Superman,” “The X-Files,” “The Incredibles” and lots more. Catch the show at 7:30 p.m. Saturday or 3 p.m. Sunday. Learn more here.
