Court overturns N.J. man’s murder conviction, citing faulty jury instruction

A state appeals court has reversed the murder conviction of a Bound Brook man who shot a former friend in 2019, ruling that the judge failed to instruct the jury to consider a manslaughter conviction.

A Somerset County jury convicted Ryan Keogh in April 2022 of murder and related charges for the death of Terrance Coulanges, who police found dead on the Keogh family property. Coulanges was 29 and living in Old Bridge when he died.

The judge later sentenced Keogh, now 34, to 50 years in prison, with a 42-year mandatory minimum.
