N.J. man struck multiple times on highway after exiting moving vehicle, cops say

The New Jersey State Police on Saturday asked for the public’s assistance in an investigation into a fatal hit-and-run crash on the Garden State Parkway the evening prior.

Jose Cerda-Estevez, 33, of Plainfield, was fatally injured after being struck by multiple unknown vehicles on the highway just before 6 p.m. The vehicles all failed to stop at the scene, the state police said.

The collision took place near milepost 112.8 in Middletown Township, Monmouth County.

Cerda-Estevez was struck after he exited the front passenger seat of a southbound Honda Pilot while it was in motion, the state police said. Why he left the car was unclear.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or the events before or after it is asked to contact the detective bureau of Troop “D” Holmdel Station at 732-441-4500, ext. 7417.

Anonymous tips are welcome, the state police said.
