The partnership between the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts and the Arkansas Cinema Society has been a strong force these last few years, and they’re not slowing down any time soon.
This month, ACS and AMFA are bringing back For Your Consideration, the series of special film screenings of some of the year’s most talked-about films. In this series, movies that have shaped our cultural conversations and gained Academy Award nominations along the way will be screened at the museum’s Performing Arts Theater in the coming weeks.
On Thursday, Feb. 20, the series will kick off with “Anora.” This Cannes Palme d’Or winner tells the story of a young Brooklyn escort who impulsively marries the son of a Russian oligarch, only to face the wrath of his parents who seek to annul the marriage. “Anora” was nominated for six Oscars, including best picture, actress and director.
Films “A Lien” and “Conclave” will be shown the following evening on Friday, Feb. 21, beginning at 6 p.m. The evening starts with the best live-action nominated short film “A Lien,” which explores the dangerous immigration process faced by a young couple on the day of their green card interview. “A Lien” was produced by Arkansas native Tara Sheffer along with Rebecca Eskreis and Sam and David Cutler-Kreutz. The film will be followed by “Conclave,” a tense drama centered around the secretive process of selecting a new pope, starring Ralph Fiennes and Stanley Tucci. This film earned eight Oscar nominations, including best picture, actor, original score and more.
Also showing at the Performing Arts Theater on Feb. 23 is “Flow.” This animated feature follows a solitary cat who must work with a diverse group of animals to survive a great flood. Nominated for best animated feature and best international feature film, “Flow” promises a beautiful, heartfelt experience for audiences of all ages.
The For Your Consideration series culminates with the 97th Academy Awards Watch Party on March 2 at Southern Tail Brewing. This free event will feature the live televised ceremony, special drinks, red carpet photos and even a ballot competition with exclusive prizes. It’s the perfect way to enjoy Hollywood’s biggest night with local fellow film enthusiasts. Reservations are recommended.
These screenings allow ACS to bring the magic of Oscar buzz right to Arkansas and provide a rare opportunity to see films that viewers may have missed in theaters.
