Thursday, Jan. 23

Sixes and Sevens Release at Moody Brews // Nothing tastes as sweet as nostalgia. The Pettaway brewery is digging into the archives to bring back this Belgian-style chocolate porter that was its second-ever bottled brew a decade ago. And yes, you can get growlers. Friday, Jan. 24

Culinary Collab at the Capital Hotel // You’re going to want to bring your A (meaning appetite) game to this exclusive dinner. The hotel’s chef Brad Izzard will be joined by three celebrated chefs from across North America to serve an eight-course prix fixe menu including sweet potato hushpuppies, braised tri-tip and chocolate mud cake. “How Black Mothers Say I Love You” Opening Night at The Weekend Theater // The downtown stage’s first production of the year, this show is written by Trey Anthony and explores community, unconditional love and dealing with a long-buried past. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Learn more here.

 

Saturday, Jan. 25

The Big Buzz Chili Cook-Off at the Arkansas State Fairgrounds // Is there anything more wintery than chili? As part of the Big Buck Classic expo, this annual cook-off returns with prizes for the winning teams and your chance to taste it all for just $5. Proceeds benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children. It starts at 9 a.m. and runs until the chili is gone. Learn more here.

The Harlem Globetrotters at Simmons Bank Arena // Whether you’ve got kids to entertain or not, the Globetrotters still put on quite the show. The world-famous team is on its new world tour with non-stop fun and lots of opportunities to interact with the players. Bring the kids. Or don’t. Tipoff is at 2 p.m. Learn more here.

Ozark Mountain Daredevils at UA-PTC CHARTS // You may be a Daredevils diehard or simply a lover of live music, but either way, this will be one for the books. The troupe is on its farewell tour after more than 50 years of sharing its unique blend of country, rock and bluegrass. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Learn more here.

“A Tribute to Coldplay” at the Albert Pike Masonic Center // This is how you set the stage for one of the most iconic bands of the early 21st century. As part of the traveling Candlelight Concert series, this show promises some of Coldplay’s biggest hits played by the Listeso String Quartet while surrounded by (flameless) candles. Thursday – Saturday, Jan. 23-25

Classic Movies at Ron Robinson Theater // The popcorn is flowing once again at the CALS theater in the River Market. Up first is “Children of Men” on Thursday, then “Les Misérables (2012)” on Friday, both at 7 p.m. On Saturday is the next Exhibition on Screen installment “Vermeer: The Greatest Exhibition” at 4 p.m., followed by a special 50th anniversary, interactive screening of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” at 8 p.m. Learn more here. 

 

Friday & Saturday, Jan. 24 & 25

Filmland: Arkansas Showcase at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts // If you missed any of the screenings from local filmmakers at last year’s Arkansas Cinema Society festival, here’s your chance to catch up. Friday’s lineup includes six student short films and seven from the pros. Saturday begins with a screening of “All Happy Families,” a film co-written and produced by Arkansas native Coburn Goss, who will also lead a screenwriting workshop following the movie. Saturday & Sunday, Jan. 25 & 26

“Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1” at the Robinson Center // Next up in the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra’s Masterworks Series (and first up for 2025) is this show featuring the talents of pianist Zee Zee, direction of Joseph Young and music of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Franz Liszt and William Dawson.
